Dr. Jennifer Gardy
Deputy Director, Malaria
Deputy Director, Disease Modeling
Global Health
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Dr. Jennifer Gardy joined the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Malaria team in February 2019. As the Deputy Director for Surveillance, Data, and Epidemiology, she leads an investment portfolio focused on strengthening surveillance systems, including molecular surveillance, and using data and modeling for policy and programmatic decision-making. Since 2021, she has also served on the leadership team for the Foundation’s Institute for Disease Modeling.
Before joining the Foundation, Dr. Gardy spent ten years at the BC Centre for Disease Control and the University of British Columbia’s School of Population and Public Health, where she held the Canada Research Chair in Public Health Genomics. Her research focused on the use of genomics as a tool to understand pathogen transmission, and incorporated techniques drawn from genomics, bioinformatics, modelling, information visualization, and the social sciences. In 2018, Jennifer was named one of BC’s Most Influential Women in STEM by BC Business Magazine and was named one of the Government of Canada’s 20 Women of Impact in STEM, and in 2021 she was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in recognition of her work on pathogen genomic epidemiology. In addition to her science work, Jennifer is also an award-winning science communicator, hosting many episodes of science documentary television for Canadian broadcasters, including The Nature of Things and Daily Planet, as well as authoring two science books for children.
Joshua Glasser
Senior Fellow
Global Nation
Joshua Glasser became became a Senior Fellow at Global Nation in March 2025, with projects focused on extreme heat, climate-resilient health systems, and applying the One Health approach. These projects followed 12 years serving in several global health and climate change related roles at the White House and the U.S. Department of State. Josh has worked on a variety of “One Health” (human-animal-environment nexus) initiatives, including in the Arctic region, the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa, and India, as well as in multilateral organizations. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in political science and public policy analysis. He holds a Master of Science in Global Health and Population from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He has also studied as a Fulbright Scholar in Vietnam (2007-2008). His work has been recognized through Superior Honor and Meritorious Honor Awards from the U.S. Department of State, as well as a Director's Award from the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health.
Dr. Jessica Green
Program Manager, Resilient Systems
ARPHA-H
Jessica Green is an optimist who believes that emerging technologies and good humans can spark widespread positive impact. She has devoted her career to bridging science, health and environmental security through leadership roles in both public and private innovation ecosystems. She's currently part of the founding team at the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), a U.S. science agency funding breakthrough biomedical and health innovation that traditional methods just can't tackle.
Prior to ARPA-H, she served as founding CTO and CEO of Phylagen, a microbiome data analytics company that provided services to Fortune 500 companies across 7 continents. During the COVID pandemic, the company developed novel methods for efficiently monitoring pathogens in office buildings as large as the World Trade Center. Prior to that, she worked as a professor of biology at the University of Oregon, where she co-founded and directed the Biology and Built Environment Center. She has received numerous awards over her career, including the Blaise Pascal International Research Chair, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, and a TED Fellowship.
